Exploring Beauty by Region
Skincare is shaped by culture, innovation, ingredient philosophy and consumer priorities. Different regions have developed distinct approaches to formulation, routines and product development, each offering something unique.
While our roots are in Korean beauty, and K-Beauty remains at the heart of our curation, we believe great skincare ideas come from around the world. As we continue to grow, we intend to expand further into Japanese, European and American beauty, bringing together thoughtful formulations from leading global brands.
Korean Beauty
Korean beauty has helped reshape modern skincare through its strong focus on skin health, hydration, prevention and innovation. Rather than treating concerns only after they appear, K-Beauty often centres on supporting the skin barrier, maintaining balance and improving long-term skin condition.
Korean formulations are often known for:
- Lightweight, layered textures
- Hydration-focused routines
- Barrier-supporting ingredients
- Advanced sunscreen innovation
- Gentle but effective active formulations
Popular product categories include essences, ampoules, sleeping masks, calming treatments and high-protection daily sunscreens.
Frequently associated trends include:
- Glass skin
- Skin flooding
- Barrier repair
- Centella-based calming care
- Fermented ingredients
- Daily SPF-first routines
Popular Korean brands include Round Lab, Beauty of Joseon, Laneige, COSRX and Purito Seoul.
Japanese Beauty
Japanese beauty, often called J-Beauty, is often associated with simplicity, elegance and consistency. While routines may be less elaborate than some Korean routines, there is often a strong emphasis on refinement, prevention and product quality.
Japanese beauty is often known for:
- Minimal but disciplined routines
- Exceptional cleansing oils
- Lightweight hydrating lotions
- High-performance sunscreens
- Cosmetic elegance and texture refinement
Popular product categories often include cleansing oils, lotions, UV protection, first-step hydrators and gentle exfoliating formulas.
Popular Japanese brands include Shiseido, Hada Labo, SK-II and Biore.
European Beauty
European beauty, particularly French and broader dermocosmetic traditions, often leans toward skin science, pharmacy heritage and barrier-conscious care. Many formulations are developed with sensitive skin, dermatological support and functional efficacy in mind.
European beauty is often known for:
- Dermocosmetic formulations
- Barrier-focused skincare
- Sensitive skin expertise
- Pharmacy-led product development
- Functional, ingredient-led routines
Popular categories often include gentle cleansers, barrier creams, thermal water sprays, targeted serums and pharmacy sunscreens.
Popular European brands include La Roche-Posay, Avène, Bioderma and Eucerin.
American Beauty
American beauty often places strong emphasis on active ingredients, treatment-led skincare and results-focused routines. Many trends around acids, retinoids, vitamin C and clinical-style skincare have been heavily shaped by the US market.
American beauty is often known for:
- Active-focused formulations
- Treatment-driven routines
- Clinical skincare positioning
- Ingredient transparency
- Fast-moving skincare innovation
Popular categories often include retinoids, exfoliating acids, antioxidant serums and targeted treatment products.
Popular American brands include SkinCeuticals, Paula’s Choice, The Ordinary and Drunk Elephant.
Different Philosophies, Shared Goal
While each region has its own strengths, they often overlap more than they differ.
- Korean beauty often emphasises prevention and barrier health
- Japanese beauty often prioritises refinement and simplicity
- European beauty often leans into dermocosmetic science
- American beauty often focuses on actives and treatment-led results
Different approaches, but often the same goal: healthier-looking, better-supported skin.
Our Approach
We remain primarily a K-Beauty destination, with Korean skincare at the centre of our curation.
At the same time, we see value in building a broader, global perspective on beauty. Over time, we intend to expand further into Japanese, European and American cosmetics, carefully curating products that align with our focus on thoughtful formulation, skin health and long-term results.
